This is a story of a virtuous, beautiful, young, Jewish lady in exile. She is faced with the choice of either committing adultery or facing death. She chooses the latter, but God saves her, using Daniel’s wisdom. It stresses faithfulness to God’s word. It is similar to Joseph’s story with Potiphar’s wife.

X  Sus. 1:23 (NRSVA) 23 “I choose not to do it (i.e. adultery); I will fall into your hands (i.e. die), rather than sin in the sight of the Lord.”
