As the child learns to walk, he initially stumbles frequently, but soon gets into everything. In this period children learn self-confidence or self-doubt. They have these characteristics:

Physical Characteristics

They start walking, and develop better coordination in the use of their fingers. They learn by playing: toys are the textbooks of toddlers. Many parents begin toilet training.

Mental Characteristics

The toddler’s mental horizons expand, particularly in the area of language development. His favorite word is “no”, by which he expresses his desire to seek autonomy and independence. You can reduce negative responses by avoiding questions that invite “no” for an answer. The toddler has a brief attention span and a short memory. He learns most from short stories repeated often. Instructions have to be repeated several times and every week; and should be given in a positive way.
